Regional Health Care Waste Management
CEPHED conducted the regional level awareness and capacity development program under the UNDP GEF SGP suported 'Environment friendly HCWM and POPs' program during 2013-2014 throughout the country. During the program, doctors, nurses, administrative staffs, local community representative, government officials and media personal were the participants. Throughout the program, participants were made aware regarding following components:
- Introduction to hospital waste
- Impacts of hospital waste
- Management strategies of hospital waste
- Introduction to liquid waste
- Management strategies of liquid waste
- Laws, legislations, plans/policies of government of Nepal regarding the hospital waste management.
- Mercury free health care services
- Introduction to Persistant Organic Pollutants (POPs)
Alltogether, more than 300 individuals were trained regarding the hospital waste management and 40 over hospitals were capacitated with technical knowledge regarding the hospital waste management.
PCB Free Grill and Steel Workshop

During the program grill entrepreneurs and workers associated with grill and steel workshop were capacitated with the knowledge of PCB and its impact on human health. During the awareness raising program, few steel workshop were capacitated with dry welding machine as part of program as model development program with sole motive to promote the alternative technology of PCB containing wet welding machine and raise awareness among grill entrepreneur. Throughout the program, more than 1000 were provided with enough awareness materials and more than 5 were capacitated with dry welding machine.
